So, the College Football Playoff seems unfair

The College Football Playoff selected Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Notre Dame as the four teams that will compete for the 2020 National Championship.

Even teams like Notre Dame and Clemson that got in, complained that Ohio State did not play enough games and should not get in over Texas A&M should have been in. Undefeated Cincinnati got no respect and find themselves ranked 8 behind three loss Florida and two loss Oklahoma.

For the first time in the history of the world, it seems like everyone on Twitter agrees the College Football Playoff is unfair. If you were one of those people, congratulations you can spot the obvious.

The College Football Playoff has always been unfair since they announced that it would be only four teams. They are the Power 5, not the Power 4, so the conference champion that is not a big brand is going to get left out from the start. A Group of 5 team never has had a shot because there are already five Power 5 conference champions battling for four spots.

Next, if you are complaining in the year of COVID-19 that Ohio State only played six games (with two games getting canceled because of other teams having COVID) and should not have gotten in over Texas A&M, its 2020, the Rose Bowl is being played in Dallas and there have been more cardboard cutouts to attend games than actual living humans, so sorry if a 6-0 team gets a spot over an 8-1 team.

The real reason Ohio State got in, they are one of the three teams that are on a different level than everyone else in the Power 5. Ohio State has won four straight Big Ten Championships, Clemson has won six straight ACC Championships and Alabama has won seven SEC Championships since 2009. Those three teams are also in the top five recruiting classes each year. Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State have been so dominant that they will always get the benefit of doubt from the committee until they show otherwise even if they played less games than other teams.

The only way to make the College Football Playoff fair is to expand it to eight teams and put certain rubber stamp qualifications on the spots that looks something like this:

The eight teams should consist of the champions of the Power 5 conferences (ACC, Big Ten, Big-12, SEC and PAC-12), the highest ranked Group of 5 (AAC, C-USA, MAC, MWC and Sun Belt) champion and two at-large spots for teams that via the eye test, win-loss record and strength of schedule are deemed by the committee to be playoff worthy.

Those eight teams once decided should be reranked by the same qualifications as used to decide the two at-large spots in order to create the best matchups.

So, this year for example would look like:

#1 Alabama (SEC Champion) vs. #8 Oregon (PAC-12 Champion)

#2 Clemson (ACC Champion) vs. #7 Oklahoma (Big-12 Champion)

#3 Ohio State (Big Ten Champion) vs. #6 Texas A&M (at-large)

#4 Notre Dame (at-large) vs. #5 Cincinnati (AAC, G5, Champion)

Until an eight-team playoff with a set-up like that is made, the College Football Playoff will always be unfair.
